“Twas the Night Before Christmas”
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a louse.
The stocks were all hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St Paulson soon would be there.
The brokers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of a future danced in their heads.
And mama on her “puter”, and I with a tap,
Had just purchased treasuries, oh what a sap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the screen to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Taking one last glance at my available cash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the luster of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my amazement should I see with my eye,
But a black Suburban surrounded by FBI.
With a handsome young driver, so full of drama,
I knew in a moment it must be Obama.
More rapid than eagles his coursers they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
“Now Emanuel, now Gates, now Summers where are you hidin?
On Geithner!!, On Volcker!, on Clinton and Biden!
To the top of the porch! to the top of the wall!
Now take the cash away! Take the cash away! Take the cash away from all!”
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, blow smoke in your eye.
So up to the roof top the coursers they flew,
With the sleigh full of bailouts, and St Bernanke too.
And then, before I had an inkling, a notice from the commission
The Environmental Protection Agency had cited my chimney for carbon emission!
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Down the chimney St. Obama came with a bound.
He was dressed all like GQ, from his head to his toe,
And he looked like a man who was definitely in the know.
A bundle of stimulus packages he had stuffed in his pack,
And he looked like a Savior, I was glad he was back.
His eyes-how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
He struck different poses, how could anyone be wary?
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And you could tell he was ready and raring to go.
The stump of a cigarette butt he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.
He had an intelligent face and a flat little belly,
And looked like he finished the entire works of Shelly!
He was chiseled and lean, a right jolly young elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye toward the teleprompter by his head,
Soon gave me to know I had something to dread.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And taking all the stocks by the chimney, he turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
Then he took the whole market, before it could close!
He sprang to his Suburban, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like they were shot from a missile.
But I heard him exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
“Health care for all, and to all a good-night!”
My sincerest apologies go out to Clement Clarke Moore for my ham handed rendition of his great work. Just a little fun on this Christmas Eve. I wish the best for the new administration and all the Americans that it will serve.
Merry Christmas to all,
Goldbug
