How To Hide Your Gold From An Oppressive Government

When your country is run by “a community organizer,” who idolizes Hugo Chavez and is doing everything in his power to destabilize the Middle East while running up his own country’s debt at the fastest pace in history,  it would be wise for you to learn how to hide your gold from an oppressive government.

The least qualified man that is any room has promised to “fundamentally change” the United States and it appears that he may just achieve it in his first term by collapsing the dollar and the banking system.  Even if he does not succeed, learning how to hide your gold from an oppressive government will serve you well in protecting your gold from the every day criminals who are not in Washington.

What To Hide

There are some very simple things to consider when you want to hide gold or silver from anybody.  Avoid bullion bars because they are registered when you purchase them and try to stick with coins that you can freely exchange without records.  The purpose of having gold and silver is to have something of value that you can use when the excrement hits the fan.

Bag Silver1 How To Hide Your Gold From An Oppressive GovernmentU.S. dimes, quarters, and half-dollars that were minted before 1965 contain 90% silver and 10% copper. They will be very useful during times of crisis because you are going to need change because, even with the hyper-inflation that is sure to come, your gold coins will be far to valuable to use for purchasing your day to day needs.

Before You Hide

Rule Number One.   Gold is an exciting subject to talk about these days as the price fluctuations get larger, but your conversations should be in generalities about physical gold and gold stocks and not about your personal holdings.  Tell no one about your holdings with the exception of your spouse, if you have implicit faith in them.

Secrecy How To Hide Your Gold From An Oppressive GovernmentThere are many shady characters out there that want your wealth, just take a look at the “useful idiots” that make up the Occupy Wall Street movement. Once you start telling your friends and family, the word will spread that you have a “stash” of precious metals and by the time they are done blabbing to their friends, you have opened the door to thieves.  Who knows who your family and friends will tell? Telling people is inviting problems.

Where To Hide

The first thing that the average person thinks about is a safe deposit box at a bank.  Well during a banking crisis, that would be the last place that you would want your gold and silver to be, because the odds are pretty good that the banks will shut down for a period of time until the government bureaucrats can figure out what to do.  Even if they decide not to confiscate your holdings, which with the Marxist Loons that are currently in power seems rather unlikely, you will,  at the least, be denied access  to your holdings.

If you want to store your coins at home, which I highly recommend, the first thing that you have to consider is theft. The FBI states that in 2010, the theft of precious metals and jewelry from personal residences came to  $1.6 billion , which was up 51% from 2005.  They also noted that only 4.2 percent of the stolen loot was recovered.

Safes

Fire safes How To Hide Your Gold From An Oppressive GovernmentSafes can certainly deter thieves if they are the right type of safe, that is securely fastened to the floor or the wall.   Inexpensive fire safes should never be used to store gold and silver, because, as Richard Krasilovsky, president of Empire Safe has been quoted as saying  such safes are “handy carrying cases for burglars.”

Safes in general tell a burglar that you have some thing of value and they can usually pry them out of the floor and take them with them to open later when they have more time and the right tools.

If you have violated Rule Number One, they may already know that you have a safe and they will go right to it.  You really need to think outside the box and come up with unique solutions that will be difficult for the average thief to figure out.

Hiding  Your Gold And Silver “Outside The Box”

By avoiding safes and obvious places to hide you precious metals, you open up a whole new world of secret hiding places.

PVC pipe buried in the backyard is a tried and true method for hiding gold and silver around the house.  Just get the size pipe that will hold the coins you have and seal the ends by gluing a cap on both ends and bury it at least 2 feet deep in the ground. Arrange some sort of marker so that you can find it later and you are good to go.

Metal detectors can be  a problem, especially if you have violated Rule Number One.  Most thieves are not going to bring a metal detector, but if one does, it should be reassuring to know that basic metal detectors can find metal on the surface or in the first 12 inches to 14 inches below ground, so if you go deeper than that you should be fine.

It is best not to put all of your eggs in one basket, so the more you divvy up your holdings and spread them around your house, the more likely that you will only lose a little rather than all of your holdings if the thieves stumble upon one of your hiding places.

Paint cans in the garage are a great place to hide coins. Place the coins in a ziplock bag, making sure that you  get all of the air out of it and put in side another ziplock and remove all the air from that one as well. Place them in a previously opened can of paint that looks used, with paint drippings on the outside and seal it up and put it with the other paint cans in the garage. The coins will sit on the bottom of the can with the paint covering them.

Place coins in the pot of an indoor plant.  Who would think to dig through the dirt of an indoor plant looking for valuables.  Not many would be my guess.

Use a decoy cash box in your dresser. When a thief  finds a a cash box with the key “accidentally” left in it, that contains  some cash, a few fake gold coins and jewelry, they will think that they have hit the mother lode and take the money and run. You can get fake gold coins and jewelry for next to nothing on the internet.  A gold plated American Eagle in a case with a price tag of $1,700 plus will look better than the real thing to a thief.

These are just a few ideas that work quite well. When you put your mind to it, I am sure that you can think of plenty of hiding places that will secure your wealth, so that only you can get to it.  Be creative and “spread the wealth around”, so to speak.

Lead Covers Gold!

When you start to think about where to hide your gold, you have to consider that a determined thief, that is armed, can force you to tell him where you have hidden your gold. That is precisely the reason that you must never violate Rule Number One and why you should have multiple hiding places. At least if you are forced to tell, you can limit your losses.

I am of the opinion that lead, traveling at 950 ft per second, or above trumps gold, so you should have it readily available for when things go “bump in the night”.  Most thieves think that the barrel of a 45 looks like a water pipe when it is pointed right at them.

Bullet Cuts Card1 150x150 How To Hide Your Gold From An Oppressive GovernmentIt makes no difference whether you are worried about local thieves or government thieves, the results can be the same. The whole purpose of owning gold is privacy and wealth protection.  You can have both if you follow Rule Number One and think out side the box when it comes to hiding your gold and silver. Rule Number One is an absolute, must follow rule and that is why is is Rule Number One. Abide by it and you are on your way to security for your gold and silver coins.

I hope these tips help you to hide your gold and silver from an oppressive government and that you are never forced to use lead to trump gold, but a little thought now, coupled with an ounce of prevention can save you a lot of grief latter on.

Till next time, good luck and good trading!
